How to write a brand values page that works

A values page often becomes a list of flattering adjectives. This guide shows how to turn a few beliefs into decisions customers can actually see, using a small apparel label as the worked example.

Step one: choose three beliefs you will act on

Start by listing what you would refuse to compromise on, then keep only three. For a hypothetical label called Sovire, the beliefs might be durable fabric, honest sizing and fewer collections. Avoid abstractions such as excellence or passion, because they cannot be tested. A good belief is specific enough that a reader could imagine a situation where it costs you something. If a value never forces a trade-off, it is decoration. Write each belief as a short plain sentence in the first person plural, and check that your team would recognize it as already true.

Step two: attach a visible behavior to each

Beliefs persuade only when paired with proof the reader can observe. Under durable fabric, the page might state that each garment lists fiber content and care guidance and that repairs are explained, not hidden. Under honest sizing, it might show measurements for every size beside a fit note. Under fewer collections, it might commit to two releases a year. Each behavior should be a practice, not a claim of superiority. Avoid unverifiable statistics or certifications you do not hold. If you cannot yet do something, phrase it as an intention with a date rather than a fact.

Step three: place the page where choices are made

A values page left in a footer does little. Link its three commitments from product pages, the size guide and the checkout or returns area, so the principle appears at the moment of decision. Keep the page itself under four hundred words, with one heading per belief, one behavior beneath it and a short note on how you will review the commitments each year. Revisit it when practices change, and remove anything you have stopped doing. The test is simple: could a stranger read it, then judge whether you kept your word?
